Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Kinesiology?

Perhaps the most common question we get is "What is Kinesiology?"

Kinesiology is the study of human movement and interaction with its environment. These studies involve the human body in all its stages of life and relates to topics such as health, fitness, biomechanics, ergonomics, and physiology.

Simon Fraser University is the only university in BC that offers the program in its purest form. Kinesiology is not to be confused with Human Kinetics, Physical Education or Human Performance. Although we more than adequate as trainers, our knowledge and studies extend far beyond that point.

Are you covered under Extended Health or MSP?

A: As far as I understand, I am absolutely not covered under the MSP. However, I may be claimed under some extended health plans. The carriers I know that have covered my expenses are Green Shield, and Great West Life. These are to be claimed after payment by yourself and the amount is dependant on your plan.

I have heard that with a Dr.'s referral for Active Rehab or Kinesiology some carriers have reimbursed a portion of my treatments.

What do you exactly do?

A: The answer varies with this question. Ultimately it depends on your case. I use a variety of modalities to accomplish fluid range of motion and strength to your tissues. Hydrotherapy, Sports Massage, and Joint Mobilization are my most common components of treatment. The release of tissue to a functional standpoint will allow you to work the muscles needed. If your tissue is in spasm and isn't functional, the proper muscle recruitment can't be done. When the tissue is compliant and functional we merge into exercise therapy. Any case that I cannot handle or am not suited for, I will always refer out immediately. Working closely with other therapists will also allow me to get other opinions with respect to your case. If you are working with another therapist, I always try and keep that therapist in the loop.

What types of facility is it?

The clinic is located inside one of BC's largest fitness facility Sport Central. The choice in location allows for maximum diversity of equipment and rehabilitative techniques.

The clinic itself consists of two therapy rooms and access to the gym. Patients will have the opportunity to use the gym during their rehabilitation programs at no extra cost to them.

Sport Central has 84 pieces of cardio equipment, 4 lines of fitness machines, steam rooms, women's only area, 3 fitness studios, 5 International squash courts and 1 North American doubles court.

For those patients with children, child minding is also available during your treatment time for an extra fee.
